Last night after a fruitful work day, I did what all of you should be doing on your Thursdays — I went to Ryan’s Pub to enjoy their ‘Pint & Platter’ special, which is exclusive to Thursday nights. Anyone who knows me knows I love food, and last night, I was particularly craving a cool pint of Guinness with a Shepherd’s Pie. It reminded me of my trip to Dublin a couple of years ago; it was that authentic. And for only $17, it was a steal!
So, I sat at a comfortable booth with my friend, Jaleel and we dug in eagerly to our Shepherd’s Pies. If you’ve never tried one, it’s layered with juicy beef, fluffy mashed potatoes, and succulent carrots, peas, and corn, topped with melt-in-your-mouth cheddar cheese, onions, and basil. On the side, I enjoyed steamed carrots and green beans. Probably the healthiest meal I’ve had in awhile.
You don’t have to order exactly what I ate to get the special. You have a choice of any pint on their drink menu and a choice of Shepherd’s Pie, fish and chips, a hot turkey platter, a hot roast beef platter, and Ryan’s Galway Chili, and a Meatloaf Napoleon, a meatloaf sandwich, and a half rack of barbecue ribs. Honestly, it’s worth trying out for yourself.
And the Guinness was, of course, delicious! What’s not to love about drinking a cold, dark, foamy pint at an Irish pub?
The service was just as high-quality as the meal. Our waitress, Victoria, was extremely pleasant and attentive. And the overall atmosphere of the pub was very amicable and relaxing.
Jaleel, who was a first-time customer at Ryan’s Pub, said that he heartily enjoyed the Shepherd’s Pie, especially the flavor of the mashed potatoes and the side of vegetables.
“I’d recommend it,” he offered. “It was a good meal and I wouldn’t have known to go there for it otherwise.”
Ryan’s Pub is located at 124 West Gay Street. For more information about Ryan’s Pub or any of their other menu options, visit their website.
