Next stop: Kaly! I talked to Polly about why she wanted to bring light to the Salaam Metta Dress our model Bri wore on the day of the photo shoot.
“I chose Salaam because of the wonderful colors and patterns they design,” she said. “They’re made in Vermont with 100% cotton and rayon, both natural fibers. It’s one of our top selling lines.”
The Salaam dress, according to Polly, is light and flowy, perfect anyone who wears it.
“The dress fits a lot of different body shapes, the neckline is great and the body is great,” she said. “It’s a fun, flirty skirt.”
Kaly has been in West Chester since the late 80s, but always moved around. After bouncing around Church and High Streets, they finally settled at West Gay Street 18 years ago. Her mother, Holly had once owned the company, but Polly took it over and renovated it.
“We still have the same Kaly vibe,” she emphasized. “And continue to sell clothes made in the United States.”
Since Polly is from West Chester, she’s seen a huge change over the past almost 30 years. Now, a lot of younger people are getting married and starting their families. Because of this, Kaly recently incorporated baby merchandise into their selection.
“West Chester is a beautiful historic downtown area and it’s only gotten better,” Polly said. “We’ve watched the town blossom for 10 to 15 years with a lot of hard work by different individuals in town, so now we have the restaurants and retail. We just have a beautiful downtown setting, and we have wonderful loyal customers.”
Kaly sells everything from women’s clothing, baby merchandise, accessories, and gifts, all from either the United States or fair trade. Stop in any day during the week, visit them online, or call 610.436.8272 with any inquiries or more information.
