Have you visited Malena’s on West Gay Street yet? This chic, vintage consignment shops buys its brands from various designers all across the country. While it’s brick and mortar shop is open seven days a week, you can always find them online Etsy, Rubylane, and Ebay, as well as a couple of pieces for sale on their Instagram.
We used a few of their best pieces for our Fashion Look Book photo shoot for our model, Grace Li, including their 1970s vintage Poly dress, a Lee Jean Jacket, a Dior purse, and a faux turquoise bracelet. I stopped into Malena’s the other day and asked Malena herself why these choices for our photo shoot were the most fitting to feature.
“Fall is a transitional period, so I feel like people still want to wear bright colors because the summer is just ending,” she explained. “But sometimes you need a jacket for the evening when it gets cool, and a denim jacket goes with everything. It helps transition a lot of our spring pieces into the fall season.”
I bet you didn’t know Malena originally went to school in New York for fashion design and business! It was always thrilling for her to find that one unique and vintage apparel that no one else had that was also well-made and sustainable, and being able to introduce others to her findings. Now in 2017, Malena’s has been a fixture in West Chester for 14 years and Malena herself has monetized what she loved into her dream career.
“It’s easy to add a piece into your day-to-day clothing, but make it more edgy,” she said. “The idea was to find unique, vintage pieces that you didn’t need to be in a city to get.”
And it’s true! You can receive a little taste of New York City right here in West Chester! All you need to do is check out Malena’s from 11 to 7pm Monday through Saturday and 12 to 4pm on Sundays.
