Fashion is universal. At Phineas Gage, one of West Chester’s high-end men’s boutiques, you can find every outfit you can imagine to get ready for the fall. The shop is cozy and wooden, housing plenty of options for you to choose from, anything from flannels to swim trunks.
For our photo shoot, our model Nick donned a Faherty shirt, an Alternative Earth crew shirt, Jonnie-O tailgater shorts, and a duffel bag by Topo Designs, I talked to Jaime, the owner of Phineas Gage, about why it was important to her to feature these pieces in particular.
“The tailgater shorts were a huge hit for us last fall, especially with the little bottle opener in them,” Jaime said. “They’re great for any guy who wants to wear them and they’re a comfortable fit.”
Jaime further described that one of the coolest parts of the Faherty shirt was how it was reversible, so you’re really getting two shirts for the price of one. And the Alternative Earth t-shirt is a great fit at a great price. It’s amazing to her that Phineas Gage is already coming up on their one-year anniversary in the borough.
“I love having a men’s store and working with the customers,” she said. “We’re lucky to have a lot of great customers and people we’ve formed relationships with.”
To her, it’s more fun to be the owner of a men’s boutique than one for women. You may not consciously think about until you own one, but men and women shop a lot differently from each other.
“Men’s fit and comfort is probably a lot more important to a male customer versus a female customer, so finding styles that not only look nice but fit really well and are comfortable is way more important,” Jaime said. “Where, as women, we might sacrifice comfort for style. They each shop really differently and it’s fun to explore how to fit style and comfort together for men.”
