You’re going to be reading a lot from me about the different boutiques and outfits that we used in our photo shoots, but have you ever thought about the hair and makeup stylists and artists that were involved? After all, hair and makeup really complete a glamorous outfit, don’t you think?
Velvet Hair Salon helped us get our models ready for the photo shoots. I talked to Erica and Annie, who did Grace and Donna’s hair and makeup during The G. Spot and Moonflower photo shoots.
“For Grace’s hair, we just chose something that was inspired by mod fashion, so early 60s fashion,” Erica said. “We chose Bridget Bardot as our inspiration, so we had the height and volume on top but had her hair half down too.”
That 60s look was the main focus of her look, and carried over in her makeup too.
“We talked to Gigi [the owner of The G. Spot] about the outfit, and she really wanted to do a 1960s glam bold eyeliner like Twiggy,” Annie said. “So we did a bold eye, but kept her skin simple, not a whole lot of contouring. A big cat eye and bold eyeshadow. It was fun to do something out of the ordinary, someone wouldn’t normally come in and ask for that.”
Donna’s Moonflower look had a completely different feel on the other hand.
“We knew that the velvety berry color dress had a bohemian vibe, but aside from that we didn’t have a whole lot of information on the dress, so we really wanted to work with her natural texture,” Erica said. “We played around as she got here and decided to put it up because it fit her face the best with the height and volume on top.”
Annie styled Donna’s makeup to also pair well with a more natural look, directly opposite of the glam bold eyeliner look for The G. Spot.
“I decided to keep her skin very natural-looking, but very glowy. So I went with a smoky gold eyeshadow, really simple with the eyeliner. Just enough to make her eyes pop, and then we did a bold lip,” Annie explained. “Natural and glowy was the look we were going for. It’s more something people come in and ask for.”
