Yesterday evening, I had some banging seafood from Saloon 151, which dare I say, might even be better than your normal seafood restaurant. Yes, you can order delicious “frutte di mare” from one of your favorite local bars and restaurants!
First, my friend Chrissy and I started off with some fantastic crab melts for $12. They were fashioned like bruschetta: bread on the bottom, a layer of crab, cheese, a perfectly-cut tomato, more cheese, and basil. You really need to try them next time that you’re there! They were so savory, I could have cried.
“The crab melts were the perfect portion for sharing,” Chrissy said. “The crab is very flavorful and the sharpness of the cheese was a lovely offset to the creamy taste of the crab and the crisp bruschetta. And the addition of the tomato slices were wonderfully light with the heavy creamy crab.”
Then, our entrees arrived. I ordered the Seafood Pasta Fra Diavlo for $17, which included clams, shrimp, mussels, spicy marinara, and garlic bread, and Chrissy ordered the sirloin tips with mushrooms, onions, sharp provolone, and Chipotle horseradish for $15. Was it delicious, or was it delicious?
“My sirloin steak tips were so tender, and the onions were caramelized well,” Chrissy stated. “The tater tots were crisp and vegetables tasted fresh and lightly-seasoned. The lightness of the vegetables paired well with the heaviness of the sirloin tips.”
As for my Seafood Pasta Fra Diavlo, I thought it was as delicious as anything you could order from a typical seafood restaurant. I would definitely recommend trying it out.
Last but not least, we ordered funnel cake sticks for $6! Warm, funnel cake dough sliced into small, crispy strips, lightly sprinkled with powdered sugar, with chocolate sauce perfect for dipping. Need I say more?
