It won’t be too long until our October Sweet Tooth issue is in your hands. We’re so excited about it, we wanted to share a couple of the recipes that were in our September Edible West Chester issue. We hope you’re ready to try some of the best sweet delicacies our borough has to offer.
La Baguette Magique — Creme Chocolat:
This dessert is similar to a chocolate mousse. Small, but filling, and generously topped with whipped cream, it’s a treat you could eat any time of day with any meal. It pairs that well with other foods.
Ingredients:
- 125 grams (4.5 ounces) dark chocolate
- 500 grams (18 ounces) milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 3 tablespoons starch
- 15 grams (1 tablespoon) butter
Directions:
- Mix in a cup a small portion of milk with the starch. In a pan, bring to a boil the chocolate, sugar, butter, milk mixture and remaining milk.
- Whisk until it boils.
- Remove and allow to cool while whisking from time to time.
- Pour in serving cups. Store in fridge before enjoying.
Salame di Cioccolato — Gemelli Artisanal Gelato and Dessert Café:
Literally translating to “chocolate salami,” Gemelli’s Salame di Cioccolato tastes similar to chocolate cookies, but with a more cake-like texture. As it’s shaped like salami, it can be easily cut to serve guests, or you can just eat it whole by yourself if you’re feeling ambitious.
Ingredients:
- 200 grams 100% pure cocoa powder
- 150 grams sugar
- 175 grams of dry cookies, crushed, either Ora Saiwa or amaretto cookies
- 150 grams butter room temperature
Directions:
- In a KitchenAid bowl (or using a hand mixer) whip the softened butter with the sugar until smooth.
- Beat the eggs in a separate bowl and add to the butter and sugar mixture little by little. Keep mixing until mixture becomes fluffy and smooth.
- Add the cocoa powder, mix well.
- Add the crushed cookies, mix well.
- Pour the mix (which should be firm) on some parchment paper and roll and shape it like a salami.
- Let it cool and rest overnight in your refrigerator rolled in the parchment paper. Store in the refrigerator when not serving. You can also freeze it (whole or sliced) to enjoy it over time.
