Whether you’re a pro or an amateur when it comes to golfing, October 2nd’s Sixth Annual Jerry Steppke Outing will be an exciting reason to hit the green. The outing starts at 11am at the Downingtown Country Club. The entry fee, which was due on September 20th, includes your lunch and beer, as well as golfing and cart expenses. Mike Steppke, son of Jerry Steppke, discussed why the event is held every year.
“I like to keep my dad’s name going and to raise money for his FOP [Fraternal Order of Police] Lodge 11 and 19,” Mike said. “My dad was a cop for 25 years in Chester County, so we like to honor him.”
Mike and his brother, also named Jerry, felt that this event was a great way to raise money for a charitable cause. Attendees can sponsor a hole for $100, which does not include golf, or they can register to play individually for $125. If a group of four would like to play as a team, it will cost $500, which will not allow the group to sponsor a hole. The person or group of people who win receive a free round of golf.
Later on in the evening, participants can attend the after party at Barnaby’s of West Chester with a $40 admission fee, the same restaurant Mike manages when he’s not running the outing. Keep the fun going with your family and friends, while enjoying the best food Barnaby’s has to offer in a buffet style for three hours. It’s sure to be a treat.
Though the Jerry Steppke Outing is in its sixth year, there was one year it had to be canceled.
“During our second year running the event, it poured all day,” Mike said, “and we didn’t have a rain date, so we had to cancel. Every year now, I hold my breath and hope it doesn’t get rained out again.”
Mike himself wouldn’t call himself a golfing pro; rather, he enjoys the social aspect the sport provides and hanging out with his friends. He hopes that every participants has as much fun during the Sixth Annual Jerry Steppke Outing as he does every year.
“I love watching sports, and I love being able to bring my love for sports to a charitable cause,” he said. “I just want everyone to have a great time.”
