Pop It, Lock It
Chosen Dance Company to Perform “Evvolution” at Uptown!
If you’ve ever wanted to see a hip-hop show live, now’s your chance! Mark your calendars — on Friday, February 2nd and Saturday, February 3rd, Chosen Dance Company will be presenting Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center with “Evvolution,” a dance performance that portrays the story of hip-hop in America 2.0 —an upgrade to their last performance.
“Evvolution” will present audiences with classic hip-hop moves, including Lockin’, Poppin’, and Breakin’, and will introduce the lesser-known hip-hop moves like Waackin’, Krumpin’, Lite Feet, and House. “Evvolution” will show — for lack of a better word — the evolution of hip-hop dance in America, its history, and how the trend still continues to thrive in 2018. It examines the movement that defined this social era, from the 1960s to the present.
“If you think you know all about hip-hop, you need to see this show! It’s informative and interactive. [Chosen Dance Company] also encourages young people to make good choices, understand their value as a human being, and the importance of being true to themselves, even in adverse circumstances” — Founder and Artistic Director Clyde Evans Jr.
What makes the hip-hop performances unique at Chosen Dance Company is its lack of profanity, violence, and overall negativity in its songs. The company only promotes positivity and a family-friendly experience. Clyde hopes to guide his young dancers to lead positive lives through the art of dance.
And that’s what Uptown! is most excited about — how Chosen Dance Company will use their hip-hop to promote peace, unity, and having fun. Hip-hop music doesn’t have to be negative for it to be enjoyable, and Uptown! hopes Chosen Dance Company will be able to demonstrate that to their audiences.
Tickets for “Evvolution” are on sale for $17 for adults and $12 for students. Two evening performances and a matinee are available. Don’t forget to order your ticket!
