First Impressions at Freddy’s
If you’re gonna be bad, it better be this good.
We all know that burgers, fries and shakes aren’t exactly healthy, so if you’re going to eat it, it better be darn good. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, which opened in West Chester in April, is your place! This fast casual restaurant has the appeal of a typical fast-food joint paired with a hospitable staff and a welcoming, clean restaurant with lots of lighting.
Though Freddy’s is new to West Chester, it isn’t a new chain. The first location opened in 2002 in Wichita, Kansas and has since become a huge hit, with 277 locations nationwide! This eatery is now the second in Pennsylvania, with another one being in Broomall.
When I went to Freddy’s today, I had to try out all of their food for myself. It’s so much better than other fast food restaurants! But my Number One order — the Freddy’s Original Double with two steakburger patties, cheese, mustard, onions, and pickles on a toasted bun — was amazing, and I typically am not a huge burger fan. The steakburger tastes a lot better than a regular burger because it uses beefsteak — which is a flat slab of beef cut like a steak — as its primary ingredient instead of regular beef burgers.
And then, there were their shoestring fries. Tiny, strips of potatoes with Old Bay spices. Dipped in the signature Freddy’s fry sauce, they made the perfect side to the steakburger. The fries are always made to order — seriously, they make you fresh fries as soon as you place your order, instead of giving you fries that’ve been kept warm under a lamp for the past few hours.
Don’t forget about their custard! I had a pumpkin pie custard sundae and a vanilla custard topped with almonds and pecans, both topped with whipped cream. All of their custards are made with real cream and you can choose 32 different concretes —, which are similar to ice creams — and mix them in to make your custard thicker and add different flavors.
“Every now and then we all deserve a treat. So, if you’re going to be a little bad, it helps to know that — at Freddy’s — you’re also doing a little good. Portions of Freddy’s proceeds will benefit local veterans. Freddy himself, the company’s namesake, is a veteran. Freddy’s often donates to the VFW and veterans receive 15% off their order on Mondays.
Freddy’s is located at 1302 Wilmington Pike. Stop in or go through the Drive Thru! It’ll taste delicious either way.
