Snow’s predicted to worsen as the day progresses, so stay inside.
Similar to the snow emergency declared earlier this March, Mayor Dianne Herrin declares the second snow emergency this month and the first official one of the spring season, as another Nor’Easter approaches on the horizon. West Chester is predicted to receive massive amounts of snowfall, possibly more than 12 inches.
The West Chester snow emergency is in effect from 8am Wednesday, March 21st until 12am Thursday, March 22nd.
Any vehicles parked alongside the curbs need to be removed to allow snow emergency vehicles access to clear the roads. Affected streets include High, Gay, Market, Price, Chestnut, Marshall, Wayne, Church, Walnut, Miner, South Franklin, East Nields, Lacey, and South Matlack Streets, along with Hannum and Rosedale Avenues.
Free Borough Lots & Warming Center
To compensate for the removal of these vehicles, the Borough of West Chester has allowed residents free parking in the Borough-owned facilities, which include the Bicentennial Parking Garage on South High Street, and the Chestnut, Sharpless, Matlack, and New Street Parking Garages, as well as all other municipal lots.
In the event that West Chester loses power, a warming center will be provided at the United Methodist Church, located at 129 South High Street, from 8am until 5pm on Wednesday, March 21st. If necessary, these warming center hours will be extended.
Herrin and the Borough of West Chester want the snow emergency to be as painless as possible during another Nor’Easter, and firmly state that their number one is to ensure the roads and highways are “safe and passable for emergency vehicles and traffic.”
Following a snowstorm like this, West Chester residents are reminded to continue moving their vehicles out of time-restricted areas, as these will be used to facilitate the Borough’s snow clean-up operations.
