From our May “Summer Style” issue.
If there’s one part of Peter’s Salon & European Spa that sets them apart, it’s how they’ve embraced the American Dream. Owner Michael Thiel’s grandfather was a barber in Yugoslavia, and his grandmother, a hairdresser. His grandparents moved to Philadelphia and started a barber shop, which the Thiel family still owns today.
It was this barber shop that planted the idea for Peter’s Salon. Michael’s dad, Peter, took over a salon from a business partner in 1962. They got their footing styling contestants’ hair and makeup for the Miss Pennsylvania Pageant at then-known-as West Chester College. When Michael and his sisters Carol, Tina, Suzi, and Karin, and Michael’s wife, also named Carol, were brought into the business, they had to work hard to bring Peter’s Salon to the level of professionalism it’s at today.
Styled by her mother, Christina O’Brien, Lindsay O’Brien was radiant with simple, but tasteful makeup that didn’t draw attention away from her blue eyes. Her hair was pulled back in a bun, with just a few loose strands touching her shoulders. Her lipstick made her teeth look even whiter.
