Sponsored by the West Chester Downtown Foundation, the 16th Annual Up on the Roof Party was a success!
Walking along West Chester last Saturday night, you probably heard the sounds of jazz music and chatter from above you. Well, look up! On June 2nd, West Chester residents joined the West Chester Downtown Foundation and the West Chester Business Improvement District for their 16th Annual Up on the Roof Party at the Chestnut Street Garage to promote the beautification of West Chester.
The party still went on despite the rain (it became Up UNDER the Roof!) Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner and hors d’oeuvres catered by Limoncello Ristorante, desserts from D’Ascenzo’s Gelato and Yori’s Church Street Bakery, appetizers from Split Rail Tavern, and beer from Iron Hill Brewery. The ever-popular Rooftop Martini was served — which was a mix of vodka and raspberries, along with other alcoholic beverages from the open bar.
When the rain became a spritz, party-goers took their tasty pastas and drinks to the roof where the twilight skyscape glowed. As the pink of the sun’s rays faded into the night sky, guests could clearly see the clock tower at the Historic Courthouse and the fairy lights at Mas’ roof.
The Donny Syracuse Band livened up the roof with jazz and 90s hits like “Champagne Supernova” by Oasis, and guests took up a partner and busted their best moves.
“I grew up helping with Up on the Roof since I was a kid,” Chelsea Sammarone, one of the party’s committee members, says on her favorite part of this event. “My mom, Tracy, was named chairwoman when I was in middle school. As I got older, I always wanted to continue helping out. This was the first year I officially joined the committee.”
“I was glad to see such a great turnout despite the rain,” she continues. “We knew that would be a challenge, but still wanted to put on a great night for both returners and newcomers, rain or shine. I got to work one of the check-in tables this year — so for me, I love being able to talk about all the features we have for the year, like the martinis, the Taste of West Chester, or the wonderful spread Limoncello does for us!”
