In our July Crime & Justice issue, we explore the past, present, and future of justice in the county seat of West Chester.
As the county seat, West Chester is home to the most prominent legal minds in the county, (and the state). So, we’ve dedicated an entire issue to law. We talk history in “The Bloodless Battle of Turks Head” and “Crime and Punishment,” and we provide a directory and profiles of the borough’s top attorneys.
The Bloodless Battle of Turks Head
Malcolm Johnstone, executive director of the West Chester Business Improvement District, talks about the birth of West Chester. Much like the birth of our nation, it began with a call to arms.
“In 1784, after nearly 20 years of petitions and complaints, the Pennsylvania Assembly approved moving the seat of Chester County from the City of Chester to “the vicinity of Turks Head Tavern,” a place at the crossroads of the Philadelphia and Wilmington Pikes.”
Crime and Punishment
Kate Chadwick examines a history of laws and law-breaking in West Chester.
“It’s a story with a plotline straight out of a Netflix documentary — a sudden, intense fire, a body inside the building, burned beyond recognition, insurance claims filed, an investigation launched, tangled plot uncovered, and not one, but two murders discovered!”
Legal Authority
There are so many law firms in West Chester, we decided to create a directory and profile the top attorneys and juridical minds in West Chester.
Bartender of the Month
This month, we chatted with Jen Marquez of Mercato about attaining a work-life balance.
