The West Chester Salvation Army Celebrates Choice Pantry Pilot Program with Re-Grand Opening of Manna from Heaven Pantry
This past Friday, the West Chester Salvation Army hosted a dedication ceremony and open house to celebrate a huge honor. This organization reached pilot pantry status under the Chester County Food Bank Best Choice Incentive.

On Friday, the Salvation Army welcomed community members to the new Manna from Heaven Pantry. People were able to explore everything they have to offer. This organization has been providing food assistance to the community for 30 years. The re-opening of this pantry is only another way they help. Instead of receiving pre-bagged food, the pantry’s choice format gives clients more options. Individuals are able to take a cart and browse through aisles, picking out what they want and need. They can select anything from food to personal care items. On top of all this, the Pilot Program is supplying healthier options. Selections include whole grain, produce and other selections to help community members live a healthier lifestyle.
“Nutrition experts say when incomes drop and family budgets shrink, food choices shift toward cheaper but more energy-dense foods. The first items dropped are usually the healthier foods, such as high-quality proteins, whole grains, vegetables and fruit. Our new choice pantry provides families in crisis with healthy food and meal options, and builds trust and self-esteem” says Lt. Maria Corraliza, Co-Commanding Officer at the Salvation Army of West Chester.
